Robert de Groot is an Electrical Engineer and Energy Storage Specialist at Mott MacDonald. He is currently based in Singapore, with 10 years’ experience working in the fields of energy storage and renewable generation in both Europe and Asia. Part of that experience included a 4 year stint at Dutch utility, Enexis B.V. He is specifically focused on the synergy between energy storage and renewables, hybrid power plants and the integration of variable renewable energy sources into the grid. In the Asia Pacific region Robert has worked on energy storage related projects in The Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Singapore regions. Robert has also spoken at previous Energy Storage World Forums in Europe, bringing in a very holistic view of this up and coming technology

Sunil has been involved in the renewable energy industry for almost two decades. Vena Energy develops, invests and operates renewable energy assets in Asia Pacific. Sunil is responsible for growth, performance improvement and competitive strategy at Vena Energy. Prior to Vena, Sunil developed and started the renewable energy business at Sembcorp Industries in 2014 and grew it to 2,600MW across five countries by the end of 2018. Prior to 2014, Sunil was global head of cleantech and technology banking at Standard Chartered and head of Asian Technology & Global Cleantech research at Morgan Stanley.
Business Developer Southeast Asia
Matthieu has been working at Akuo Energy since 2017, initially as a Project Developer before moving to Singapore to lead the business development activities in Southeast Asia. Incorporated in 2007, and with over 1,3 GW of solar, wind, hydro and biomass assets in construction or operation worldwide, Akuo Energy has been a pioneer in solar + battery projects initially to serve its activities in insular territories. Before joining Akuo, Matthieu worked in the sugar cane industry in the region, helping sugar producers optimize their energy consumption.

Joo Duk is Director of Elia Grid International Pte Ltd (Part of Elia Group) with more than 20 years of experience in the Energy Industry, 15 of which are in Asia. He combines a strong background in project management with the commercial mind-set of a business developer. He believes in creating value and change that benefit our clients and society at large thanks to energy transition. Joo Duk has a proven track record in developing new markets and devising strategies geared at stimulating business growth. In Vietnam, he successfully helped deliver advisory solutions on RES integration for EVNNLDC, as well as power transmission assessment for EVNNPT amongst others. Joo Duk will bring the perspective of utility where battery storage plays a critical role for grid with more than 60% of vRE vonnected to it.
Regional Sales Director
Originally from Italy, Lorenzo has lived and worked in Asia for the past 12 years in solar and energy storage applications. In TOTAL SOLAR Distributed Generation he is in charge of C&I solar business development across South-East Asia. Prior to joining TOTAL, he was GM of a Hitachi Chemical group company in Singapore. Lorenzo holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy and full-time MBA from SDA Bocconi, Milan Italy.
R&D Programme Manager
Dr. PENG Xiaoyang received his B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering from Wuhan University, China in 2010, his M.Sc. degree in Power Engineering and his Ph.D in microgrid from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2011 and 2016 respectively. He started his career with ENGIE Lab Singapore in 2016, working as a research engineer. He is currently a programme manager in ENGIE Lab Singapore, the APAC R&D branch of ENGIE group, and managing all the topics relating to smart grid technologies, renewable energy integration and decarbonization solutions. He has been working on the frontline of green technologies within ENGIE, which itself is one of the world’s pioneers in carbon neutrality. He is managing the flagship project of the APAC R&D centre, Project SPORE under the ambitious REIDS initiative in collaboration with NTU, other industrial partners and government authorities.
BD Manager
Cyril is in charge of the business development for the stationary activity of Leclanché for the North East part of Europe. Cyril has a strong technical background in Photovoltaic, conversion system and electrical installation standards. Prior to joining Leclanché Cyril gained more than 10 years of experience in the area of PV inverters and Energy Storage Systems. He served as Product Manager at SMA Solar Technology in Germany, then at the department of Strategic Marketing and Business Development at Socomec in France. Cyril earned a Master of Electronic degree from ISEN university in Lille, France
Co-Founder & CEO
Roberto has been working in the energy sector since he started his career in 2000, he has extensive experience in the industry in senior roles across the entire oil and gas and renewable energy value chain: in project development, deal origination, project finance, private equity and M&A. Having co-founded Ikigai, Roberto joined the company in April 2019 and chose to focus the company strategy on behind the meter C&I energy solutions, drawing on his deep understanding of non-recourse financing and development of traditional and decentralised energy, knowledge of C&I customer challenges and research into technology advancements in Europe and the US in the field of microgrids. Roberto is a regular speaker at energy transition conferences internationally, a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University in Bologna and the chair of the Solar and Storage panel of the UK Solar Trade Association.
Product Development
Ed is responsible for product development and human centered design at Evie. He currently advises a number of start-ups in energy storage, virtual power plants and EV battery recycling. Previously he led the energy storage team at AGL Energy Limited where he launched Australia’s first retail offering and large scale virtual power plant. He was a founding employee at Aquion Energy where he worked on Aquion’s novel aqueous sodium-ion battery technology, contributing to both battery design and development and the establishment of pilot and scaled manufacturing facilities.
Head of Energy Storage
James heads up the Energy Storage team at BloombergNEF. He leads the company’s coverage on energy storage technologies and the lithium battery supply chain, providing insights on technology, markets, policies and regulation. James leverages his background in battery research to provide key insights into the chemistries, applications and markets for lithium-ion batteries. He advises utilities, technology companies, investors and policymakers across these fields. Prior to joining BNEF James completed a PhD at the University of Southampton. This work focused on lithium-oxygen batteries as next generation energy storage devices. He then went on to work as a research fellow at the University of Southampton for two years. James holds a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Electrochemistry.
Electrical Engineer and Energy Storage Specialist
JIN Chi is currently an Electrical Engineer and Energy Storage Specialist at Mott MacDonald. He was previously a Senior Research Fellow in an academic institute at NTU, Singapore, specifically leading the applied research projects with respect to the integration, control, management, and optimization of renewables and battery energy systems in microgrid applications. He also has working experience as the Principal Power System Engineer in a redox flow battery company (BESS OEM), managing and leading the design, development, deployment, and production of the flow battery system in various grid ancillary and renewable integration applications. In the Asia Pacific region, Chi has energy storage project experience in Japan, South Korea, Nepal, and Singapore
