Africa Launches 1st Wind Hydrogen System

The First African initiative to make hydrogen from water using green energy has been successfully installed in Morocco.

The hydrogen system has been installed to enable the storage of excess wind energy, and it demonstrates that the intermittency of the wind and excess production can be resolved.

Sahara Wind Inc. has installed a wind farm consisting of 3 wind turbines at Al Akhawain University, which means that green energy could be used around the campus. However, there were times where there would be excess energy produced from the wind turbines.

Thus, the Pure Energy® Centre designed and installed a hydrogen energy storage system, consisting of a hydrogen electrolyser (used to produce hydrogen from water), a hydrogen store and a fuel cell, so that the stored energy could then be re-used at a later stage when no wind generation was available.

The world needs energy storage technologies because they can reduce (a) the impact of renewable intermittency and (b) resolve the issue with excess green power. Hence, hydrogen energy storage will play a greater role in modern society as the renewable installations increases substantially at a global level.

Ultracapacitor UPS (U-UPS) for voltage dips and micro-interruptions

Power interruptions are the most frequent power supply problems with wide-ranging consequences for industry. The causes of these interruptions include short-circuits in the distribution grid, lightning strikes, the connection and disconnection of power plants as well as volatile energy producers such as wind and solar. Because technologies and production processes are becoming increasingly complex, the…
