Biggest Energy Storage System Begins Operation
The largest utility owner in the United States, Duke Energy, has announced that the largest battery power storage system has commenced operation at the company’s wind farm in Texas.
Duke said that the Xtreme Power Inc system has the ability to discharge stored power from the Notrees Wind project as and when required and absorb it during periods of low demand. Duke also expects the system to improve the reliability of the power grid through rapid response to changes in supply and demand. Such systems could be able to help the state to avoid blackouts as it addresses the imminent issue of tightening power supplies.
