Cheap Solar That We Cannot Take Advantage Of
Solar PV-generated energy may now cost just half the price of grid-based electricity.
According to energy expert Gordon Weiss, levellised cost of solar PV might just be between 12c/kWh and 14c/kWh, nearly half the price of electricity from the grid.
However, most households lack the storage facilities to take full advantage of this cheap power by storing it for use in the night. Installing batteries might change just that.
Of course, there are many other considerations. Should these facilities be installed on a community or individual scale? How will current utilities react- with tax barriers or by welcoming it? Will the cost of installing battery storage exceed the potential savings of cheap solar-PV?
