A123 To Supply Energy Storage System

A123 Systems is to supply a 2MW grid energy storage system to Ray Power Systems Co. Ltd., a Chinese company focused on developing the frequency regulation market and relevant technologies.

The project in China will be designed to validate the technical capabilities and benefits of energy storage as a fast-ramping, accurate and clean resource for providing frequency regulation services. Moreover, the project is also expected to showcase energy storage as a valuable resource for meeting China’s growing frequency regulation demand.

A123 recognises China as a large market opportunity for their energy storage technology, including as a solution to address the ramp-management challenges associated with the increased deployment of wind and other renewable energy generation assets.

Together with Ray Power’s development of a set of comprehensive solutions for deploying energy storage, success in this initial deployment and joint venture is expected to lead to additional projects going forward.

What lessons can be learnt from the UK’s latest Capacity Auction?

This month’s UK capacity market auction left a bitter taste in the mouths of optimistic developers, with final prices low enough to discourage new developments in clean energy and energy storage. This year’s T-4 auction clearing price of GBP £8.40 per kW a year – just over 60% lower than that of last year’s auction….

Evaluating The Economics Of Gas Storage For The Grid

Power-to-gas is the method of turning electricity into hydrogen gas using electrolysis. The resulting hydrogen can then be used as vehicle fuel, combined with carbon dioxide to make methane (a natural gas replacement), or injected into natural gas infrastructure as hydrogen in low concentrations. If made from surplus renewable electricity, the generated hydrogen is low-carbon…
