Data Center At EasyStreet Opts For Flywheels
EasyStreet Online Services, Inc. is purchasing environmentally friendly, high-speed flywheel systems from VYCON.
EasyStreet opted for flywheels over batteries because of their reliability, explained Jon Crowhurst of EasyStreet. In the case of batteries, one bad cell can render the whole string of batteries useless. Batteries have to undergo a lot of testing, monitoring and maintenance as well, which is troublesome.
The company calculates that with the flywheel storage systems, it can save about 1.5 megawatts a year, enough to power about 153 average households.
