Electricity Shortage Powers Energy Storage

UK residents are turning to residential energy storage solutions in the droves after the country’s Office of Gas and Electricity Markets warned two months ago that a looming energy supply crunch, coupled with slower-than-expected fall in electricity demand, will lead to a mid-decade power crisis. Owners of micro-generation units have begun securing energy storage solutions as a means to cope with the anticipated disruption in the supply of electricity over the coming years. GreenKit’s energy storage kits, for example, has seen an increase in demand exceeding 200%.

GreenKit’s managing director Rupert Higgin explained the recent frenzy surrounding home energy storage technology, “the energy storage kits have flown off the shelf since the recent warnings. Although useful during power outages, they are a great way of getting more out of an existing renewables system and ideal for those who want to store the electricity they generate for their own uses rather than export it to the grid.”
