Just How Valuable Is Concentrated Solar Power?
In a study done by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), researchers are trying to determine how concentrated solar power (CSP) plants can contribute to the grid.
Using data from California’s renewable portfolio standard, NREL found that when CSP is utilized as a reserve during high consumption periods, the operational value of CSP was high.
Results from the study will help utilities and system planners to incorporate more of CSP in standard planning tools.
