North America Leads The World In Microgrids
Of the world’s total proposed, planned, and completed microgrid capacity of 3.8 gigawatts, more than 2.5 gigawatts of microgrid capacity is located in North America, according to U.S.-based Navigant Research.
The 3.8 gigawatts of microgrid capacity is represented by 480 microgrid projects worldwide. In the state of Connecticut alone, some 27 projects are being planned and proposed. Off Navigant Research’s official microgrid radar, there are many more local microgrid projects that go undocumented, so an estimate of 480 microgrid projects might be a conservative one.
