New York Utilities Demonstrate Renewable Energy Projects

New York is beginning to change the way its distribution utilities are operating. Last week New York utilities previewed their ideas for renewable energy projects for the city. Each utility across New York filed at least one demonstration project, to be review by regulators from the New York Public Service Commission next month.

An example of three proposed projects by the utility company Iberdrola include smart grid solutions, community solar power and an energy marketplace that provides personalized offers to consumers, that will be more engaging than conventional energy-efficiency programs.

These projects are not intended as one-off projects, but will hopefully be successful enough to be implemented across the state. The projects are part of the state’s energy transformation initiative, Reforming the Energy Vision.
