Luigi Mazzocchi worked at CISE from 1981 to 1997, initially performing research activities on nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics. Later on, he has coordinated and performed studies, experiments and consultancy activities concerning fossil-fired power plants (coal, oil, GCC), with the objective of energy efficiency improvement, emission control and cost optimisation.
Since 1998 he has worked at ENEL, CESI, RSE, as head of research units in the field of power generation. Today he is Director of the Power Generation Technologies and Materials Department at RSE. The Department employs more than 70 researchers and specialised technicians, and operates important laboratories including the Dispersed Generation Test Facility and the Solar Heating and Cooling pilot plant. Main activities concern Photovoltaics, Bioenergies, Energy Storage, Smart Grids. He is author of more than 50 publications in the power generation field.
