Google And Yahoo To Benefit From Smart Grid

A think tank known as Joint Venture Silicon Valley is initiating a public-private partnership with the likes of Google, Yahoo, Intuit and Jupiter Networks in order to develop a smart-energy grid in Silicon Valley.

“We’re trying to do two things,” Joint Venture President & CEO Russell Hancock said. “First, we’re trying to reduce Silicon Valley’s carbon footprint. The second is we’re trying to promote Silicon Valley as the answer to this problem.”

Renewable energy sources like solar, fuel cells, biogas, thermal and electric energy storage are some of the features of the smart energy zone that Joint Venture aims to have in operation by 2020.

Together with electric car charging stations and analytics to ensure efficient energy usage, Hancock describes the future system as “maybe the world’s most integrated example of a smart grid.”
