U.S. Bolsters Solar Energy Research with $30 million – Energy Storage World Forum

The United States’ Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy, a government institution dedicated to funding research on emerging technologies in the field of energy, has launched the Full-Spectrum Optimized Conversion and Utilization of Sunlight program. The initiative is welcoming proposals for two energy solutions: new hybrid solar energy converters and new hybrid energy storage systems.
ARPA-E will fund technologies that can not only convert sunlight into power, but also produce heat that can be stored. Additionally, the second category is for advanced storage systems that accept energy from a variety of solar sources.

U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moriz said that “ARPA-E’s new program will leverage the ingenuity of America’s best and brightest to develop technologies that are critical to the continued growth of the solar industry”.
