Decade-old Electricity Storage “Bible” Revised

The Electric Power Research Institute, together with the U.S. Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratory has published an update on their decade old primer on energy storage technologies. The first handbook, EPRI-DOE Handbook of Energy Storage for Transmission & Distribution Applications, was a treasure trove of information, with wide-ranging views on the potential of energy storage in the national grid, storage technology comparisons, pros and cons assessments, and a review of ten different storage technologies in 14 transmission and distribution (T&D) categories filling the 500-page tome.

The revised edition takes a different tack in a size more compact. The DOE/EPRI 2013 Electricity Storage Handbook in Collaboration with NRECA is written as a guide for utility companies and rural works engineers, planners, and decision makers to design and carry out energy storage projects. Investors and venture capitalists who are looking for an uptake of the commercialisation prospects of industry will also benefit from this release, as the 340-page document also supplies the newest advances in technologies and equipment. There is also a comprehensive list of the cost of current storage storage systems across a diverse range of electric utility and customer services.
