Residential Energy Storage In Germany Is No Easy Track To Success

Residential PV systems is a tough market to compete in despite the significant increase in the demand for solar batteries, warns the German Solar Industry Association.

There is a healthy demand growing for energy storage in Germany. Last year, about 20% of household PV systems were sold with a battery pack. High household electricity prices here is drawing consumers to solar plus storage solutions.

However, despite the financial incentives, German households find it difficult to cough up the €20,000 needed for the combined PV-and-battery systems. The market is also close to saturation with about 70% of German PV installation companies offering storage as an option. Add to that about 30-40 technology resellers and distributors. Some companies might be selling at a loss to build market share.

Nonetheless, some see a gap for companies that can offer integrated systems and high-quality services as few companies are skilled enough to provide homeowners with precise self-consumption rates and return-on-investment calculations.

If you want to know more about this and other topics directly from end users of energy storage technologies join us at one of these annual events: The Energy Storage World Forum (Grid Scale Applications), or The Residential Energy Storage Forum, or one of our Training Courses.
