Scientists Now Have Microscopic Insight Into A Li-Ion Battery – Energy Storage World Forum

Researchers at the Department of Energy’s Joint Centre for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) have developed a way of peeking into what goes during a Li-ion battery as it cycles.

A state-of-the-art electron microscope offers nanoscale resolution images of lithium ions during deposition and dissolution in a stage called the operand electrochemical stage.

It produces real-time imagery which can be used by scientists to better control both performance and safety properties when developing new battery technology.

This could be the most important advancement yet for new battery technology.
