Hawaii Energy Park And Sandia National Laboratories Test Energy Storage – Energy Storage World Forum

The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) is working together with Sandia National Laboratories, based in New Mexico, to develop energy storage projects on Big Island.

Big Island hosts an 870-acre energy and ocean technology park that has seen the County of Hawaii, Hawaii Electric Light Co., and NELHA cooperating to test pre-commercial energy storage units since last year.

A second storage system will be added later this year that will supplement the existing 21.9 kWh M100 battery module by Aquion Energy Inc installed last month.

NELHA and Sandia have been working together to bring online and evaluate the first of 3 energy storage systems to be installed at NELHA’s new energy storage test bed.
