Battery Storage for Commercial & Industry
Powerful battery storage offers many advantages in terms of saving electricity costs and a reliable power supply. With this technology, companies retain control of their energy supply and costs. The battery storage system is charged when energy is cheaply available and it supplies the stored electricity when prices are at their highest. With applications such as reactive power compensation, peak shaving and shifting, additional grid fees and energy costs can be saved.
With the FREQCON BESS solutions, FREQCON offers sustainable and efficient turnkey battery storage systems consisting of MSC Hybrid Converters and flexibly configurable battery storage units. The advantage for companies is that either a complete turnkey system can be supplied or the battery storage provided by the customer can be integrated into an overall system. In either case, the company supplies a project-specific solution for the individual application in the power range from 150 kW to 2 MW, which is scalable up to 100 MW.
Second Life for Automotive Batteries
BESS EV is a highly secure energy storage solution particularly suitable for power generators and applications in industrial environments. This stationary system uses the MSC Converter and second-life vehicle batteries from Mercedes-Benz Energy, focusing on sustainable reuse of these batteries. The system achieves high availability through a redundant system. Closed cabinets and integrated exhaust gas discharges ensure a high level of fire safety for the storage system. The battery management system monitors and protects all battery modules and shuts down individual modules in the event of a fault.

Everything from a single source
With BESS FQ, FREQCON delivers a complete solution consisting of MSC Converter, battery storage, battery and energy management systems. By using high-quality LiFePO4 or LTO batteries, charging rates from 0.25 to 20 C are possible. The reliable and robust BMS ensures a high longevity of the batteries, the fire protection concept a high level of safety. The system is available as a space-saving, modular solution in an ISO container, optionally also as an in-house solution.
Individual solutions
In addition to BESS EV and BESS FQ, FREQCON also develops individual system solutions (BESS Custom) based on the MSC hybrid converter. Depending on project and country-specific requirements, the system can be designed exclusively for customer applications. Different battery types are used here, with the advantages of each battery type being optimally exploited. In addition, batteries provided by the customer can be used as well. The MSC converter can be designed for all common battery types in compliance with the required grid codes.

Autonomous Power Supply in Microgrid
The example of Westerwälder Holzpellets GmbH shows how an optimization of costs as well as reliable and efficient energy supply in line with consumption can succeed. The producer of sawn timber and wood pellets already has photovoltaic systems with 750 KW of production power in its area grid, as well as a biomass heating plant with 685 KW. The electricity produced there is used to supply the factory. From summer 2021, electricity from five wind turbine generators with a total output of currently 2,000 KW will also feed into this grid. The aim is to achieve a high level of self-consumption.
Grid fluctuations and short interruptions in the public grid regularly cause difficulties for the sensitive production processes. For this reason, the company was looking for a suitable energy storage system as a complete solution and found it with FREQCON: At the end of 2020, FREQCON delivered a stationary high-performance battery storage system as well as the precisely fitting MSC hybrid converter with a rated power of 1.5 MW. The storage system from our cooperation partner Mercedes-Benz Energy consists of 112 lithium-ion automotive batteries with a total capacity of 1.4 MWh.
