Konterra Realty to Complete Maryland’s First Micro-grid
The headquarters of real estate firm Konterra will boast a shiny new micro-grid installation this coming fall, in what is billed as one of the America’s first such commercial-scale facility. The two companies working on the photovoltaic-powered micro-grid are Standard Solar and Solar Grid Storage. An energy storage system connected to the central grid will be sited at the same location as an array of PV panels capable of generating up to 402kW of electricity.
Besides acting as backup power to the estate, the system can also reduce demand and lower consumption during peak hours. The impressive system will also allow Konterra to dip their feet in the ancillary markets for electricity. The project is one of four awarded the Maryland Energy Administration Game Changer grant, which aims to allocate cost-sharing grants for innovative clean energy generation technologies and market strategies in the state.
