Irish Group Spends €10m On Smart Grid Heating System – Energy Storage World Forum

Irish electrical heating technology company Glen Dimplex is spending €10m on a new space and water-heating energy-management system they call Quantum. The company will test Quantum in collaboration with 140 homes in Dublin.

According to Glen Dimplex CEO Sean O’Driscoll, Quantum will be the first smart grid-enabled electrical heater the company has developed to date. The Quantum system works by storing excess wind energy during the off-peak and supplying it as heat when needed.

Quantum will be particularly significant in increasing consumption of renewables as over a third of energy is used for space and water heating in buildings in the UK.
