Hawaii To Get New Solar Energy Storage Project – Energy Storage World Forum

A new solar energy storage project will be installed in Hawaii. The KIUC IV will set up shop on a new 12MW solar farm in Hawaii.

The project has been developed by Xtreme Power in collaboration with the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) and will use lithium ion batteries. KIUC IV will deploy the new, modular RAMP Series Energy Storage System (2MW, 15 minutes) to provide ramp rate control and fast frequency response in order to facilitate the integration of the 12 MW solar farm.

Islands are great markets for energy storage solutions, as there is a need to mitigate reliance on diesel fuel. KIUC IV will benefit Hawaii greatly by reducing the total cost of producing power.
