Energy Storage Gets A Boost With New FERC Rule – Energy Storage World Forum

A new rule passed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will make the development of energy storage systems easier. Order 792 requires public utilities to provide just and reasonable interconnection service for small generators.

Order 792 specifically adds energy storage to the category of resources that can be interconnected to the power grid under the Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP) and/or Fast Track Process. The Order also clarifies how the size of a storage device (for determining SGIP and Fast Track eligibility) can be measured. The Order will help connect more renewable resources to the power grid.
