Emergency Power Supply Using Microgrid
Borrego Springs, a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, witnessed the power of a microgrid in the time of emergency. A heavy thunderstorm, which caused havoc in the form of heavy rains and flash floods, also struck down a power pole on the only transmission line functioning in the area.
However, power was soon restored when SDG&E’s Borrego Springs Microgrid was brought to life to supply electricity. While connected to the grid in regular conditions, the microgrid can also disconnect and function independently during emergencies, supplying vital electricity to the local community through its on-site resources.
