‘Secret Sauce’ For Safe Batteries
A 12-year-old company with big ambitions is making headway in the innovation of batteries. The company in question, AllCell, puts a patented ‘secret sauce’ that makes batteries safer and longer lasting.
Started from the Illinois Institute of Technology’s tech park, AllCell creates the management system ‘brains’ for large-format batteries. The company uses a composite wax substance that changes state from solid to liquid when heated, inside the battery packs. The phase change material (PCM) surrounds the batteries and acts as a backup breaker circuit to ensure that the temperature of the batteries stays at a safe level.
