Compressed Air Energy Storage Facility To Be Built In Northern Ireland

A Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) plant will be built in Larne, Northern Ireland. The plant will have a capacity of 268 megawatts to store energy from renewable sources like wind.

The facility will require two air storage caverns with geological salt deposits deep underground.

ARUP, the company engineering the CAES project, says that the project will significantly lighten Northern Ireland’s electricity bill.
