Tesla could help Hawaii reach its 100 percent renewable electricity goal

A new major solar project by Tesla Inc. on the Hawaiian island of Kauai combines a 13-megawatt solar system with a 52 megawatt-hours of batteries to store energy that can be used in the evening. For the next 20 years Tesla will deliver electricity at 13.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, whereas the consumers paid 27.68 cents last December.

By acquiring the panel installer SolarCity Corp., Tesla is able to unite the solar power with its batteries thus ensuring more reliable energy for utilities.

This project is yet another step forward to transform Tesla into the “a one-stop-shop” clean energy empire and it is aligned with the Hawaii’s clean energy initiative to relieve their dependence on oil by achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2045.
